Men who served in the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons Service Squadron

The 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons Service Squadron began recruiting at Enniskillen on 2 October 1914. Around 185 men had been taken on by the time the books were closed at the end of November. In February 1915 another forty recruits were sought, and by the end of that year over 300 had been recruited to the squadron.

At least 220 saw overseas service, the majority sailing for France in October 1915 with the 36th (Ulster) Division. In June 1916 the squadron became part of the 2nd North Irish Horse Regiment, and in September the following year that regiment was dismounted and absorbed into the 9th (North Irish Horse) Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers. All men of the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons Service Squadron then serving in France with the regiment were compulsorily transferred to the infantry and given new (Royal irish Fusiliers) numbers. However those at the squadron depot at Enniskillen when the transfer took place remained with the Inniskilling Dragoons, and received new (Corps of Dragoons) numbers. Small numbers transferred out of the squadron at other times. For example, at the end of April 1917 about ten men transferred to the Machine Gun Corps (Cavalry) and embarked for France to join their new regiment.

The list below will show all men of the squadron who it has been possible to identify. Most gaps are due to the fact that records have not survived for many of those who joined the squadron but did not serve overseas.
