Corporal William Hall

The 1914-18 Service Medal and Victory Medal of Corporal William Hall.
Born at Lisnageer, Cootehill, County Cavan, Hall re-enlisted in the North Irish Horse on 20 October 1913 (Service No.877). He was aged 27 and a farmer at the time. He had seen previous military service in the North Irish Horse, having left when his time expired.
Hall embarked for France with A Squadron on 17 August 1914, where he took part in the retreat from Mons. He was home from 14 January 1915 to 11 September 1916, and promoted to Sergeant in November 1915. Following further service in France with the 1st Regiment North Irish Horse, he transferred to the Military Mounted Police (Service No.P/16263) in 1918. On 23 April 1919 he was discharged to Z Class Army Reserve.
Hall was also awarded a 1914 Star. The whereabouts of this medal is unknown.
