Lance Corporal Stewart Lyttle Turner

Lance Corporal Stewart Lyttle Turner, North Irish Horse, Service No. 1656. Born Woodford. Only son of Robert Turner, 279 Springfield Road, Belfast, and late of Ballygawley. Husband of Margaret Turner. Enlisted Antrim. Killed in action on 20 July 1917, aged 24. Buried at Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, grave II.F.1. The grave inscription reads:

1656 LANCE CPL.

NORTH IRISH HORSE

20TH JULY 1917 AGE 24

THERE REMAINETH A REST

FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD

 

By sad chance another North Irish Horseman, Clement Douglas Turner, was killed on the same day. The two men are buried side-by-side.
