2nd Lieutenant Robert Noel Anderson

Robert Noel Anderson enlisted as a Private in the North Irish Horse in September 1914 (Service No.1204). He embarked for France with D Squadron on 1 May 1915, taking his own horse, Heidi, with him. He was later promoted to Corporal, and returned from France in the Spring of 1916 to the Curragh for signals training. To his lasting sorrow his horse remained in France. On 28 January 1916 Anderson was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, his Gazettal notice showing that by then he was attached to the Royal Irish Rifles. Other records show him as belonging to the 2nd Reserve Cavalry Regiment. His post-war address was Ballynascreen, Greenisland, County Antrim.
