Private David Kennedy Cameron

David Kennedy Cameron was born on 2 January 1900 in Church Street, Antrim, the last of six children of mechanic (later power loom tenter) James Cameron and his wife Sarah (née Service). By the time of the 1911 Census he was living at 89 Duncairn Gardens, Belfast, with his parents and siblings. The family later moved to 52 Brookhill Avenue.

The date that Cameron enlisted in the North Irish Horse, and his regimental number, are not known at present, but given his age it is probable that he joined in the last year of the war. He trained at the regiment's Antrim reserve camp before being demobilised, probably in 1919.

At some point after the war Cameron joined the Royal Ulster Constabulary, rising to the rank of sergeant. By 1962 he was living at 39 Mount Merrion Avenue, Belfast. He died on 25 January that year in the Royal Victoria Hospital and was buried in the Roselawn Cemetery.

Cameron's brother James also served in the war, in the 50th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. Awarded a Military Medal in March 1917, he died of wounds in France on 5 June that year.
