Private Andrew Clarke

 

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present, other than that he was born about 1890.

Clarke enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 28 January and 16 February 1912 (No.665 – later Corps of Hussars No.71063). He embarked for France with C Squadron on 20 August 1914, seeing action on the retreat from Mons and advance to the Aisne.

On 15 January 1915 he was admitted to the 4th Stationary Hospital suffering from bronchitis. He was discharged six days later.

Clarke remained with the regiment throughout the war. On 24 April 1919 he was demobilised and transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve.
