Private Henry Clark

Henry Clark was born on 23 April 1898 at Dungonnell, Killead, County Antrim, the fifth of eleven children of farmer James Ballagh Clark and his wife Annie O'Neill Clark (née Young). By the time of the 1911 Census he was living at Dungonnell with his parents and eight of his siblings.

Clark enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 12 and 18 April 1917 (regimental number 2422 or 2423 – later Corps of Hussars No.71816).

In January 1918 Clark embarked for Egypt with a draft of North Irish Horsemen from the regimental reserve depot at Antrim. There he was attached to the 1/1st Nottinghamshire Yeomanry (Sherwood Rangers). He served with that regiment in the Palestine campaign. He was still with the army in late 1919.

Following his discharge Clark was employed as an official in the Ulster Bank. On 3 October 1935 he married Stella Ross in the Church of Ireland Parish Church, Lisnaskea, County Fermanagh.
