Private Stanley Cooper

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present, other than that he was probably from England.

Stanley Cooper enlisted or was called-up between 1915 and early 1917, when he was posted to the Leicester Yeomanry. He later joined the Staffordshire Yeomanry and in 1917 was issued Corps of Hussars number 301052.

Later that year or at the beginning of 1918 Cooper was posted to the North Irish Horse, soon after embarking for France. There he joined the 1st NIH Regiment, which in March 1918 was converted to a cyclist regiment. This meant a 25 per cent reduction in its numbers, and it is probable that this was the time that Cooper was posted to the 19th (Queen Alexandra’s Own Royal) Hussars. He was later posted to the 8th (King's Royal Irish) Hussars, and by the end of 1919 was with the 3rd (King’s Own) Hussars.
