Service Squadron Inniskilling Dragoons

 

 

Officers and NCOs of the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons (Service Squadron), raised in Ireland in the first months of the war. Many of these men went on to serve in the 2nd Regiment North Irish Horse, which was formed by the combination of this Squadron and C and F Squadrons of the NIH in June 1916. This image is from the Belfast Evening Telegraph of 28 January 1915.

The Squadron embarked for France at the beginning of October 1915.

The men are, reading left to right:

Sitting: Lieutenants Ernest George Matthews, Charles Beauclerk Despard, Staff Sergeant-Major Thomas Henry Waldren (No.52), Major C.D.B. Strettel, Captain Adrian Hulse, Quartermaster-Sergeant William Ernest Crawford (no.57), Lieutenant Moorehead, Lieutenant T.W. Seymour.
