Private Walter Scott Ludlow


Walter Scott Ludlow was born on 14 August 1891 at Carn, Bawnboy, County Cavan, the fourth of six children of farmer William Ludlow and his wife Eliza (née Pattison). By the time of the 1911 Census he was living at Carn with his parents and three of his siblings.

Ludlow enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 2 and 6 December 1915 (No.2014 – later Corps of Hussars No.71671).

He served at the regiment's reserve depot at Antrim until demobilised and transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve, on 12 March 1919.

After the war Ludlow lived in Belfast, working as a grocer's assistant. On 29 June 1921 he married Annie Hannan at St Anne's Church of Ireland Parish Church, Belfast. By 1967 he was living at Elmhurst, Lough Road, Antrim. He died in hospital on 22 January that year and was buried in the Antrim Cemetery.
