The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present.
Magill enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 8 and 11 February 1916 (No.2109).
On 16 June 1916 at Antrim he was a witness at an inquiry into the injury of fellow Horseman John Young while on parade:
States at Antrim on June 8th 1916 I was on Parade with the Squadron and No. 2146 Prt Young North Irish Horse was riding behind me. We got the order to "Walk" and my horse which is a bad (mount?) let out and caught Prt Young on the knee.
Magill did not serve overseas during the war.
