Private Francis McBurney

It is not entirely clear whether or not this man served in the North Irish Horse, but his name was listed in both the Ballymena Weekly Times of 25 September 1915 and the Ballymena Observer of 24 October 1915 as a recent recruit to the regiment.

Frank McBurney was born on 25 December 1897 at Ballylig, Broughshane, County Antrim, the fourth of five children of National School teacher and farmer James McBurney and his wife Sarah Martha (née Foster). By the time of the 1911 Census he was living at Ballylig with his parents and siblings.

McBurney enlisted, apparently in the North Irish Horse, in September 1915. Soon after, however, he joined the Royal Field Artillery (No.108292). He saw service with that regiment until the end of the war.
