Private James McKinley

 

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present. The Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Roll of Honour: 1914-1919 lists him as 'trooper' in the North Irish Horse, living at Whitewell [north of Belfast], and a member of the Carnmoney Congregation.

James McKinley enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 4 January and 12 April 1917 (regimental number 2354, 2357, 2359, 2360 or 2361 – later Corps of Hussars No.71771). In January 1918 he embarked for Egypt with a draft of North Irish Horsemen from the Antrim camp. There he was attached to the 1/1st Nottinghamshire Yeomanry (Sherwood Rangers). He was still serving as late as January 1920.
