Captain William Kenneth McMullen

William Kenneth McMullen was born in Sligo on 18 August 1894, son of farmer William John McMullen and his wife Florence Margaret (nee Rowlette).

In 1901 he was living with his family at Drumgill, County Meath, and in 1911 at Drumcliff, County Sligo.

On 6 January 1916 McMullen was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 7th (Service) Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles. However it seems that he left the regiment soon after. He was later commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the North Irish Horse, with seniority from 6 April 1916.  On 6 October 1917 he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant.

On 14 August 1918 McMullen transferred to the Indian Army. During the early 1920s he was promoted to captain.

He died at Letcombe Regis, near Wantage, Oxfordshire, on 27 July 1975, and is buried in the Childrey Churchyard.
