Corporal Alexander Aloysius Murray

 

The background of this man is not known at present.

Alexander Aloysius Murray enlisted in the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons Service Squadron between 26 and 28 October 1914 (No. UD/67). On 6 October 1915 he embarked for France with his squadron, which was then serving as divisional cavalry to the 36th (Ulster) Division.

In June 1916 the Inniskilling squadron joined C and F Squadrons of the North Irish Horse to form the 2nd North Irish Horse Regiment, serving as corps cavalry to X Corps.

Murray transferred to the North Irish Horse between 1 and 20 November 1916 (No.2307 – later Corps of Hussars No.71749). Whether he was in France at the time or had returned to Ireland is not known.

On 6 March 1919 he was demobilised and transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve.
