Private James Reagh

James Reagh was born on 6 December 1885 at Magheradrumman, Milford, County Donegal, the second or third of four children of farmer Samuel Reagh and his wife Margaret (nee McCarron). By 1911 he was living there with his parents and younger sister and working on the family farm.

Reagh enlisted in the North Irish Horse at Letterkenny on 23 December 1910 (No.566). He embarked for France with A Squadron on 17 August 1914, seeing action on the retreat from Mons and advance to the Aisne.

When his period of service expired, Reagh chose to leave the army. He left France for the UK on 16 December 1915 and was discharged at Antrim as 'time expired' six days later. His record of service was marked as "very good".

Private Reagh's older brother Samuel Reagh also served in the North Irish Horse during the war.
