Private Robert Sayers

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present.

Robert Sayers enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 13 and 15 November 1915 (No.1879 – later Corps of Hussars No 71612). He trained at the regiment's Antrim reserve camp before embarking for France sometime between 1916 and 1918, where he was posted to one of the squadrons of the 1st or 2nd North Irish Horse Regiments.

Sayers remained with the regiment throughout the war. On 2 March 1919 he was demobilised and transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve.

Note: Surviving records show another man (Francis Jennings) with the same regimental number - 1879. It has not been possible to determine which is correct and which is not.
