Air Mechanic David Martin Scott

 

David Martin Scott was born on 17 June 1889 at Ballylone, Ballynahinch, County Down, the last of nine children of farmer Martin Scott and his wife Jane (nee Cleland). He grew up on the family farm at Ballylone.

Scott enlisted in the North Irish Horse on 2 October 1914 (No.1251) and embarked for France with F Squadron on 17 November 1915. Five months earlier he had married Annabella Lewis at Kilmore, County Down.

On 19 October 1916 Scott transferred to the Royal Flying Corps (No.50821). He remained in France until 20 February 1918, when he returned to the UK. During that time he served as an Air Mechanic 2nd Class and as an Aerial Gunner.

Scott was transferred to the Royal Air Force Reserve on 11 April 1919 and was discharged twelve months later.
