Private Sampson Kirkpatrick Trotter

Private Sampson Kirkpatrick Trotter, North Irish Horse (Service No. 771), and 9th (North Irish Horse) Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers (Service No. 41320). Son of John and Catherine Trotter, he was born on 31 December 1887 at Muckross, Kesh, County Fermanagh. Trotter enlisted in the North Irish Horse on 20 December 1912. On the outbreak of War he was embarked for France with A Squadron on 17 August 1914. He subsequently served in the 9th (North Irish Horse) Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers, before being transferred to Class Z Army Reserve in March 1919. It is said that he had a horse called 'Dolly' from the farm at Muckross which served with him through the War. Sampson Trotter died on 19 May 1970 at Belfast City Hospital.
