Waring was among the 400 men captured by Boer forces at Lindley in May 1900. He was released on 30 August with the other members of the 13th Battalion when the British captured Nooitgedacht.
He served in World War 1 as an officer in the North Irish Horse and the Royal Irish Rifles. He was Mentioned in Despatches three times. He died of wounds on 15 April 1918. Further information can be found here.
